InLoveAbroad.com came in to this world on April 26th, 2011. After agonizing over the site name more than I would my own child’s name, I finally settled on “In Love Abroad”. It’s the story of my life: I met a charming young man online in 2009. By late 2010, after we’d spent quite a bit of time together in person, we got engaged. Because I am from the United States, I was able to file for a K1 (aka “fiancé(e) visa”) visa on his behalf. I lived with him for almost a year in a strange land: a country which neither he nor I am from. Every day waiting for our visa petition to be approved or denied was agony, but every day living together in a foreign country was an adventure. In Love Abroad was created in hopes of finding others who can relate to these feelings. Update: In July 2011, my charming young man and I moved to the United States together and got married.
In Love Abroad welcomes everyone who has ever had the pleasure of mixing love and travel. Perhaps you met your significant other while working or studying abroad. Or maybe your partner took a job overseas and you take turns traveling back and forth. Traveling and learning about a new culture is great, but even better when you’re doing it for love. Whatever your story, please come share it with me and all In Love Abroad’s readers by posting comments and participating in discussions with fellow readers.
